Testimonials from our News Course:

MM’s news course has been one of the most valuable courses I’ve taken in my 13 years of Chinese learning. Our lessons are based off current events and fascinating social trends going on in China that I would otherwise know little about from the United States. Laoshi is a very capable instructor, but her own active participation in class and encouragement of students to use Chinese to critically examine trends is what makes class so fulfilling. This class has honestly felt like a cheat code that empowers me with practical knowledge about what’s happening in China: it’s much more than just language learning and has become one of the main ways I gain cultural and political context of Chinese news that is essential for my job.——Prayuj

Masterin Mandarin’s news class has been a great way to practice Chinese while staying up to date with the latest issues in China. The teachers always select fascinating readings that reflect the biggest debates of the day — everything from the pressures of student life in Beijing’s top universities to the new trend among young people of visiting temples in China. The teachers’ vocabulary powerpoints and discussion questions have helped me gain deeper insight into the news beyond what I could learn reading on my own. Across the board, the teachers I’ve had are very thoughtful, prepared, and interested in pushing us to think deeply and critically.  ——Lili
